ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Situation is returning to normal in Karnataka with confidence building measure being taken to instill a sense of confidence among citizens of North East who have been fleeing from various cities of South India in fear of being attacked in retaliation after recent violence in Kokrajhar district, Assam. Group of North East students today held meeting with local Muslim leaders and police at Mysore and Bangalore city in this regard.

While talking to this daily, Toklen Dupak, an Arunachalee student currently studying in Bangalore, informed that representatives of NE students along with various students studying in Mysore city today had a meeting with local Muslim leaders and police commissioner of Mysore city. “During the meeting Muslim leaders urged NE students to feel safe. In fact, they offered to provide volunteers from Muslim community if NE students want. Police commissioner also assured full safety and asked us not to believe rumours,” informed Toklen Dupak. Muslim leaders invited all NE students to join them in Eid celebration by offering to host dinner for the students.
Another student representative from Manipur Samson Khuveio informed that at Bangalore too they had meeting with Muslim leaders and everyone assured them that the community has nothing against NE people. Further, he expressed gratitude to government of Arunachal for helping NE students during present crisis.
“North East students of Karnataka express sincere gratitude to Arunachal Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and MP Takam Sanjoy for helping us a lot. They provided us fund to organize meeting which helped to install confidence among NE people. Only Govt of Arunachal Pradesh came out to help us and it is a shame that other state governments of the region is not doing enough in this regard,” said Samson Khuveio.
Meanwhile, student representatives have appealed all the NE people to come back and rejoin colleges and their offices in Karnataka.
Arunachal goodwill team meets Tamil Nadu CS, DGP
Chennai, Aug 20: An Arunachal Pradesh goodwill team led by Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy met Tamil Nadu’s Chief Secretary and Director General of Police on Monday to check the exodus of people of the North East region following rumours of violence.
The exodus in the wake of rumours of retaliatory attacks on Northeasterners after the Assam violence abated today in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The goodwill team headed by Sanjoy had also visited Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to coordinate with state governments in South India, and demanded security and protection for northeast students studying in various cities in the region.
Sanjoy, who is also Convenor of All India Tribal MPs Forum, urged people of the North East region to return to the southern states, as the situation there is “conducive”.
“State governments are very alert and effective. Those who have run away must come back by August 25. The situation is absolutely conducive. Panic and rumours created by the enemy should not be a weapon to damage our society and family. I appeal all those who have gone to immediately return to the southern states,” he said.
New Delhi has asked Islamabad to crack down on elements based in that country for using social media networking sites to whip up communal sentiments and create scare among people of NE region living across India. Accusing Pakistan based outfits of creating fissures within Indian society, Sanjoy said: “This is a fight against our nation. Pakistan is trying to wage war against India and has already tried to divide us on basis of religion, now they are trying to segregate on the basis of looks. All of us are united; none can divide us because we are a strong nation.”
Sanjoy was here to meet representatives of the Tamil Nadu Government to convey the concern of northeastern people. He also interacted with students from Arunachal Pradesh and advised them to take precautionary measures.
Sanjoy is visiting South Indian sates as an emissary of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, and is accompanied by Congress leader Likha Maj. From Tamil Nadu he is expected to travel to Maharashtra to meet Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Hibu meets NE students, reveals safety measures
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi Robin Hibu yesterday personally visited various colonies in Delhi where Northeastern students and employees are residing in large number, especially Janakpuri, Satyaniketan, Munirka, Indravihar and Gandhi Vihar and interacted with them.
Hibu assured safety and security of students and people of North East in Delhi and informed them about various measures taken by Delhi police to tackle any eventuality that may arise from the rumours. He gave advice and tips on coping with difficult situations and asked them to pursue their studies sincerely.
Hibu was accompanied by representative of various Northeastern student organizations in Delhi, namely Arunachal Students’ Union Delhi, Naga Students’ Union Delhi, All Assamese Students’ Union Delhi, Tripura Students’ Forum Delhi and Delhi Mizoram Chakma Students’ Union during the visit, according to Arunachal Students’ Union Delhi release.

Sena foresees bright future of sportspersons

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: A record 410 shuttlers of different age groups from various districts of Arunachal Pradesh are vying with each other for top honors in the first Dorjee Khandu Memorial Open Badminton Championship which began at Raj Bhawan Badminton Hall, here today.
Attending the inaugural function this morning, Horti/Agri Minister Setong Sena exhorted the participating players to make best use of the tournament to show their inherent talents. There is no dearth of sports talents in our state. But our athletes can not compete to their fullest potential due to lack of proper training, infrastructure and exposure trips. He hoped this tournament would provide a good platform to the young shuttlers to expose their hidden talents. Citing the example of Saina Nehwal, who has won a Bronze medal with her scintillating performance in the just concluded London Olympics, Sena asked the sports persons of the state to take inspiration from the ace badminton player. He was optimistic in saying that sportspersons of Arunachal Pradesh would be able to compete in bigger sporting events in different disciplines within a couple of years.
While urging the participating players to maintain sportsman spirit, Sena said winning and losing are part and parcel of the game. Hence the most important thing is not to win but to take part, he added. “Further, winning a game or two makes no player/team better than other”.
Sena recalled Kahndu’s great contribution towards development of games and sports in the state and said that the visionary leaders was also a keen lover of sports, who used to come to Raj Bhawan regularly to play badminton.
Earlier, Sena along with other dignitaries paid rich tribute to a decorated portrait of Late Khandu.
Principal Adviser to Chief Minister T N Thongdok advised the participants foster unity, brotherhood and the feelings of oneness through sports. He said that sports keep one physically and mentally fit. One can earn livelihood as well as personal glory from sports, if pursued seriously, he said. Thongdok advised the participating players to play the sport with true sportsman spirit.
While appreciating ASBA and Tourism Minister Pema Khandu for conducting the tournament in memory of Late Khandu, he hoped that state government would come forward to sponsor the tournament in future for the betterment of sportspersons in the state.
Tournament Coordinator and Political Secretary to Chief Minister Bamang Tago delivered the keynote address.

Dabii calls for effective measures to tackle dengue
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Member of Legislative assembly Tako Dabii has expressed serious concern over reported finding of 4 dengue cases and 40 scrub typhus cases in Pasighat and its vicinity in East Siang district.
In a release Dabii said, “For the first time, in one of the towns in Arunachal Pradesh and its vicinity, breakout of dengue disease has taken place and everybody knows dengue is a life threatening. Matter should not be left only for haphazard treatment to the sufferers but Govt. must have a clear cut direction and instruction should be issued to the District Administration and Department of Health and Family Welfare, Arunachal Pradesh to tackle the dangerous disease with utmost care.”

AICU resolves to fight for oppressed
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: All Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Union (APCU) president Tok Buttum and general secretary Taw Tebin represented Arunachal Pradesh in the 58th Annual General Body meeting of All India Catholic Union (AICU) at Seva Kendra, Kolkata from August 17 to 19.
More than 250 catholic leaders from all over India attended the meeting.
Rt. Rev. Thomas D’souza, Arch Bishop of Kolkota inaugurated the meeting in presence of John Dayal, member of National Monitoring Committee for Minority Education, government of India, who is also the former president of AICU as well as present Secretary General of All India Christian Council and Maria Fernandes, vice Chairperson State Minority Commission of West Bengal.
AICU resolved in the meeting to appeal to the Christian Educational Institutions Authority to stop denying the Catholic Children in getting admissions into their educational institutions on the ground that Christian children should be empowered through education in order to give constructive and quality contributions towards nation building and also faith formation.
The meeting also resolved to work for the upliftment of down trodden, Dalits, ST/SCS and OBC and raise strong voices against any atrocities committed against these sections of people and will continue to advocate for their rights.
Addressing the meeting, Buttum strongly raised the recent mass exudation of students and working groups from North East from various Southern States and appealed all the respective leaders of States to strongly pursue with their own Government to look into the safety and security of these students.
AICU appealed to both national and state governments to immediately arrest the situation and take action against those responsible for it.
Earlier, the meeting condoled the victims of Sikkim earthquakes and raised relief fund.

Tagung seeks NEDFi’s help to promote handicrafts sector
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resource Development Authority Vice Chairman Yora Tagung assured his cooperation to the artisans of North East for further growth of handloom handicrafts sector.
There is rich tradition of indigenous handloom and handicrafts in the region where bamboo is the major source of such products. Artisans can use bamboo for producing different bamboo based items like incense stick, toothpick, artificial flower etc., Tagung said while inaugurating the 10th North East Handicrafts & Hand loom Fair at NEDFi Haat, Guwahati today.
Assuring his fullest cooperation to the artisans for their future works, Tagung requested the NEDFi to organize such fair in Itanagar also. He further requested NEDFi to provide training on handloom and handicraft to the unemployed youth of Arunachal Prdesh.

Student’s death mourned
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council (APCRCC), its women and youth wings, Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Women Wing (APCRCWW) and Arunachal Christian Revival Youth Association (ACRYA) and Christian Revival Church Naharlagun have mourned the untimely demise of Taba Jabet (Abu), a young and promising member, who breathed his last at Naharlagun on August 19. He was battling cancer for the last three years.
Jabet was a student of Indra Academy, Naharlagun and was the son of Late Taba Tasang and Taba Rija.
The APCRCC, APCRCWW and ACRYA office bearers, church members and relatives paid their respectful adieu to the departed soul while attending the funeral service at Polo Colony in Naharlagun on Sunday.

Death condoled
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Central Nyedar Namlo (CNN) and Nyedar Namlo Doimukh unit condoled the death of Tana Yamin, W/o Late Tao Aren, village Chod, Under Yazali circle of Lower Subansiri District.
Yamin, a senior member of the Namlo movement, breathed her last on August 18 after a prolonged illness.
Her contribution towards society and state was remembered by the Namlo goers. “Yamin’s death is an irreparable loss to the society and the vacuum created with her death will be difficult to filled up,” Taba Takam, Secretary, Nyedar Namlo, Doimukh Unit said in its condolence message.
They conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Bar association pleads for legal action
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Bar Association of East and Upper Siang districts has appealed to the East Siang deputy commissioner to take legal action against a police constable who had allegedly assaulted an advocate at Pasighat on August 18.

Who is answerable ?

I would like to draw the attention of the higher authorities towards the problems faced by the Adi students studying in Lohit district as they are deprived of school stipend?
It is worth mentioning here that the stipend of the students has been enhanced after
a revision (Ref: January 30th 2012, A Times). As per revision students from Class

During my school days at Govt. Hr. Sec. School Namsai up to the year 2007, I did never receive any school incentives nor any stipend being an APST Candidate. And surprisingly still this is happening; the Adi students of Lohit district are strongly exempted from awarding of school stipend. When enquired about this deprivation to one of the principals, the principal clarified that he cannot do anything for this … as it is being blocked by higher authority. And these is the reason we (Principals) are not distributing stipend Form to them. And once the blockage is cleared we won’t have any problem in awarding stipend.
Now my question is who is that higher authority and who is answerable for such impasse?

State’s centennial district East Siang has some ugly segments so culpable to divulge. It has historical measures to hoard, but it’s enduring state of affairs has stories to tell, new projects to embark on at the same time many unfinished task mocking at us.

Siang, gives only bumpy ride. The developmental funds vanished into thin air, the

roaming free, many funds siphoned, infirm road from Nari to Koyu, flood torn Mebo

Development remains a distant dream
Dear Editor,
In this era of rapid development, Richu-
Though the people had welcomed the posting of a regular circle officer in 2011, after the years of neglect, the circle headquarter is yet to see the infrastructure development for better administration. The circle is yet to be properly connected by road. During rainy season, the local people, particularly the emergency patients and their relatives suffer most due to poor road connectivity. One wonders, what happened to the all the previous schemes and fund sanctioned for road improvement ?
Similar questions may be asked in other development initiatives taken in the past such as water supply, electricity supply, and sluggish implementation of housing schemes without sanitary facilities, posting of medical personnel and educational staff without solving the accommodation problem. Yet these are not mere complaints but efforts to reach out the people’s representatives, department concerned and to urge them introspect upon their roles in development for the people.

NMM and Women’s Rights
Dear Editor,
Anything bad must end one day. As I have said already that polygamy is the root cause of the domestic violence and atrocities on women in the state and it must be washed off from the face of mother Arunachal.
As the wearer knows where shoe pinches, so the women who are the serious victims of this crime only know how much they are suffering. A saying also goes when a woman is educated the members of her whole family become educated. Actually, she is the real head of the family in terms of management within the home in all respect. To make a family happy, prosperous, healthy and peaceful a mother must be happy first. When she suffers the development of a family and the education of the children suffer.
Today’s dissatisfied children will become the dissatisfied citizens of tomorrow and what good we can expect from such dissatisfied and love deprived citizens in society. So, I on behalf of the women of Arunachal Pradesh and on my own behalf earnestly request every responsible citizen to refrain from indulging in polygamy and also ask the young unmarried women to refrain from getting into relationship with married man even if he approaches. Young female must think thousand times before agreeing to become a second wife. We will take steps to identify those who are encouraging polygamy and take legal steps if necessary.
As a preventive measure, we will conduct moral and legal counseling to females of all age groups by inviting resource persons like lawyers, social activists and heads of all departments and autonomous bodies to create awareness on legal aids and laws available for protection of women from domestic violence and to give them rights and justice.

climate ‘fast start financing’ for ruining the Indian domestic solar photo-
Currently, 80 per cent of the Indian manufacturing capacity is in a state of forced closure and debt restructuring with no orders coming to them, while the US manufacturers are getting orders from Indian solar power developers.
Observers say, fast start financing is a US $30 billion fund set up under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The fund, adopted at the Copenhagen climate meeting in 2009, is supposed to help developing countries deal with climate change impacts and limit greenhouse gas emissions.
Now, it is believed that the US has been using this fund to promote its own solar manufacturing, thereby benefiting themselves while knocking out the Indian manufacturing competition that doesn't have the same government backing.
